JUST can’t wait any longer and NEED to escape lockdown for some summer holiday sunshine? But wary about what to expect at airports during a pandemic? Don’t worry! Here I go through some of the aspects you could do with knowing before you embark on your post-pandemic trip!
My encounter is based on flying with TUI from Manchester to Dalaman Airport in Turkey at 10:15am in August 2020. Some details may change if you’re flying later in the year.
Upon entering, the airport was quiet and empty. The usual hustle and bustle of excited holidaymakers was non-existent. This might have been because it was 7am… however, by the time we boarded the plane, the airport was still dead and eerie, except for those congregated at our gate. There were only minimal flights on the board at this time. Whether this was due to less planes taking off or because it was still early, I’m not sure but it was unnerving!
Check in and bag drop at airports are self service to limit contact with the staff. However they are milling around if you need help and to check your passport and boarding pass on arrival.
Most of the shops were closed with a lot of the stock cleared out. So if you’re thinking of getting last minute discounted sandals, sunnies or beach wear – don’t wait! Definitely get them before you come. Duty Free was fully stocked, however there are empty shelves where the testers used to stand.
These are to be worn at all times, unless you’re eating, drinking and when you go to passport control, where you have to pull down your face mask briefly.
Track and Trace
If you’re wishing to eat at the airport, be prepared to fill in a track and trace form. Airport lounges, like Priority Pass, don’t have the usual buffet. But instead, you can order as much as you like from the menu, including alcoholic beverages – thank goodness! And it’s all table service – so sit back and relax, you don’t even have to leave your seat! And right now, you can save up to 25% off with Priority Pass airport lounges! Feel calm and safely relax before flying in the safest and comfiest spots in the airport.
Now you’re onboard with what to expect at the airport, check out what your flight will be like.
